Legislation to deal with the financial crisis in Harrisburg has been passed by the Pennsylvania House and signed into law by the Governor. Under the new law, the Governor has the power to declare a financial emergency, and can appoint a receiver to oversee the development and implementation of a financial recovery plan. Rep. Rep. Sue Helm Comments on Bill to Privatize Wine and Liquor Sales in PA - 7/14/2011
Legislation to bring Pennsylvania out of the post-Prohibition era by finally moving the sale of wine and liquor into private hands has been introduced in Harrisburg. The bill is designed to modernize and privatize wholesale and retail sales of alcohol while reforming the tax structure, strengthening enforcement efforts and enhancing alcohol education programs. Rep. Helm Comments on House Passage of an On-Time State Budget - 6/30/2011
The Pennsylvania House has passed a $27.15 billion spending plan Wednesday in Harrisburg, completing the state budget before the constitutional deadline of June 30th. The new state budget includes no tax increases, and reduces overall spending from the previous year. Rep. Sue Helm (R- Dauphin) said she was pleased to support a fiscally responsible state budget that holds the line on spending and does not increase the burden on Pennsylvania taxpayers. Rep. Helm Comments on House Republican Budget Proposal - 5/12/2011
The House Republican alternative to Gov. Corbett’s budget plan was unveiled this week in Harrisburg. The proposal provides additional funding for education, offset by a reduction in welfare programs, while preserving Corbett’s original $27.3 billion spending limit. Rep. Rep. Helm Comments on Recommendations to Improve Megan's Law - 8/16/2010
State Lawmakers will hold a public hearing about problems facing Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law Internet registry of sexual offenders Tuesday morning at the Susquehanna Township Senior High School auditorium. Rep. Sue Helm (R-Dauphin) co-chair of the hearing, said legislators will review recommendations made earlier this year to make needed improvements to the Megan’s Law website. State law now requires sexual offenders to register their location, employer and other details on a website administered by the Pennsylvania State Police. Legislation to help community based non-profits by easing limits on small games of chance used to raise funds for local services was approved recently by the state House in Harrisburg. The bill would significantly increase allowable prize limits for raffles and daily drawings from $500 to $1000 and increase weekly prize limits from $5000 to $25,000. Rep.
